MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has approved a resolution commending Olds RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Jim MacDonald for his service in the district.

The move came by way of motion at the Jan. 27 council meeting. MacDonald served three years at the detachment before his last day at the post on Jan. 29. He is retiring from the RCMP in March.

Mountain View County deputy reeve Greg Harris, himself a former police officer, put forward the motion to recognize MacDonald.

“I would like to see council come together to acknowledge Staff Sgt. MacDonald’s contributions in the three years he has been in Olds,” said Harris. “He has brought an incredibly collaborative working system to Olds RCMP.

“He has been very supportive of community organizations, both in the town and certainly with rural crime watch. We are certainly better off for the contributions he’s made.”

Reeve Bruce Beattie also commended MacDonald for his efforts.

“He has been very good at reporting and his relationship with us has been very positive,” said Beattie.
