OLDS — Olds Minor Hockey Association may have to fill as many as 12 positions when it holds its awards banquet and semi-annual general meeting next month.

As a result, president Rob Turville said lots of volunteers will step forward to fill those vacancies.

“With such a large turnover of directors and three out of the four executive this year, we’re going to be trying to really push to get some new faces joining the board and helping out,” Turville said during an interview with the Albertan

Turville admits volunteering for the organization can take up a lot of time, but he said it’s worthwhile.

"The bottom line is without a board of directors and executive, Olds Minor Hockey doesn’t exist, right?

“Without the countless hours and a lot of effort put forth by the volunteers who put a lot of time into this board, without Olds Minor Hockey, a lot of kids wouldn’t have a place to play hockey in this community,” he said.

Turville said playing hockey helped him grow as a person. That's why he volunteers – to pay that forward.

“It’s one of those things that, somebody did it for me when I was a kid and allowed me to have that opportunity, so it’s kind of giving back.

“And you do get a sense of gratitude when you volunteer. And then you know, for example, you show up to these tournaments over the next month, these weekends, and you see the emotion and the fun that these kids are having," he said.

“It does make it worthwhile when there’s your payoff.”
