Olds residents Maeghan Wild and Lauren Roblee returned from the Alberta Winter Games in Spruce Grove on the weekend with positive results.

Wild won a bronze medal in wrestling in the 65-kilogram weight class while Roblee placed fifth in wrestling in the 51-kilogram weight class. The zone 2 team, of which both were a part, finished fourth in the team event.

Wild wrestled in three matches, losing to the eventual gold medallist in her weight class.

“I thought we did really well as a team and as individuals. Even though wrestling is an individual sport, there was a real sense of team and family,” she said.

There were seven girls and 11 boys on the zone wrestling team.

Roblee, who wrestled in five matches and won twice, said she was happy with her results.

“I was very proud of the way I wrestled. We really didn't (think of) wrestling as an individual sport, it was really a team effort,” she said.

Taken together, the zone 2 team finished second in the medal standings for all sports, taking home 92 medals. The zone 2 team trailed only the zone 3 team which finished with 125 medals.

The games took place Thursday through Sunday in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Parkland County.
