Summer games good to local athletes

Several local athletes brought home medals from their efforts at the Alberta Summer Games held in Lethbridge July 27-29.

Canoe/kayaker Alexander Ramrattan is bringing home a gold in the 11-14 C-2 slalom event along with two bronzes, one in the 11-14 male K-1 slalom event and one for the 11-14 male C-1 slalom. He also competed in the 11-14 male K-1 wild water event.

Darius Ramrattan ended up with four gold medals in the 11-14 male K-1 slalom, the 1-14 male C-1 slalom, the 11-14 C-2 slalom and the 15-17 slalom team race. He got a silver in the 11-14 male K-1 wild water event.

Katrina Wagers came first in the 15-17 slalom team race. She's bringing home two silver medals, one for the 15-17 female K-1 wild water event and one for the 15-17 female C-1 event. She received a bronze medal for the 14-17 female K-1 slalom event.

Katie Hendrickson placed second in the 11-14 female C-1 slalom event and third in the canoe polo event. She also competed in the 11-14 female K-1 wild water event and the 11-14 female K-1 slalom event.

Hannah Hendrickson got a bronze in the canoe polo event. She competed in the 15-17 female K-1 wild water event, the 15-17 female K-1 slalom event and the 15-17 female C-1 slalom event as well.

Ian Scherrer won bronze in the canoe polo event. He also competed in the 11-14 male K-1 wild water event, the 11-14 male K-1 slalom and the 11-14 male C-1 slalom.

Shannon Wagers competed in the 11-14 female K-1 slalom, the 11-14 female C-1 slalom event and the 11-14 female K-1 wild water events.

Track athlete Mackenzie Ramsell brought home gold in both the U15 female long jump and the U15 female high jump. She competed in both the U15 female 100m and the U15 female 200m dashes as well.

Brayden Posyluzny, another track athlete, won two silver medals, one in the U15 male long jump and one in the U15 male shot put event. He got bronze in the U15 male 4x100m relay, the U15 male triple jump and the U15 male discus throw. He also competed in the U15 male medley relay, the U15 male 100m dash, the U15 male 200m dash and the U15 male javelin throw.

Local swimmer Josh Gette won a bronze medal in the category 2 male 4x100 free relay event. He also competed in the category 2 male 4x100 medley race, the category 2 male 50 back race, the category 2 male 50 free, the category 2 male 100 free, the category 2 male 100 back, the category 2 male 200 individual medley and the category 2 male 200 back events.

Justin Valentine also competed for Zone 4 in swimming in the category 1 male 800 free, the category 1 male 4x100 medley relay, the category 1 male 200 free, the category 1 male 400 free, the category 1 male 100 back, the category 1 male 100 breast and the category 1 male 100 individual medley events.

Faith Gette swam in the category 2 female 50 back, the category 2 female 100 back, the category 2 50 fly, the category two female 100 individual medley, the category two female 100 fly and the category 2 female 200 individual medley events.

In the team events, Mischa Maree played on the Zone 4 male rugby team that won two and lost five games.

Pacen VanderMeer was on the Zone 4 male soccer team that went 2-2 in the four game tournament.

Lacrosse players Jaycee Ellis, Nicholas Stauffer, Thieu Van Aar and Reed Engman were on the Zone 4 lacrosse team that went 2-2 in the tournament.
