Two members of the Olds Rapids Swim Club are donning special suits in an effort to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Eight months ago, Cole Urbanowski's mother Shauna was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy and has been cancer-free for three weeks as of writing. She will begin radiation therapy next year.

Following her diagnosis, Urbanowski started wearing the Breaststroke 4 Hope suit — a pink swim brief.

His friend and fellow Grade 10 student at Olds High School, Dawson Green, decided to join the cause and both wore the suits at a Rapids exhibition meet at the Olds Aquatic Centre on Dec. 10.

Graeme Gordon, head coach of the Rapids, said there's been some discussion about getting more members of the club to participate, with the possibility of holding a fundraising event in the future.
