High school wrestling teams from Olds and Wetaskiwin will be joining forces this weekend to co-host the Alberta Schools' Athletics Association Rural Wrestling provincial tournament at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The two schools agreed to work together to host the event after a venue in Wetaskiwin could not be arranged. Spartans wrestling coach George Grant said they were able to step into the void with the new facility in Olds.

As far as the tournament is concerned, the opening ceremonies will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday with wrestling set to begin at 4 p.m.

Bouts will continue throughout Saturday with gold and bronze medal matches slated for 2:30 p.m. There are 17 weight classes for boys' wrestling and 11 for the girls.

Olds will feature five wrestlers in the competition.

The rural provincials features athletes from eligible schools other than those in Calgary or Edmonton. The top five competitors from rural provincials in each weight class will move on to the full ASAA provincials March 11-12 in Stony Plain.
