Olds will host the 2016 Hockey Alberta Midget A Female Provincial Championships.

The tournament will take place from March 10-13. The Olds midget A female Grizzlys will automatically get berths as host team. That announcement was made last week.

Jackie Taylor, bid committee co-chair, said the group will start making plans in January. Their goal is to be ready by mid-February, when teams are qualifying through provincial playdowns.

"In our mind, this is more than just playing the hockey game. This is about celebrating the success of each and every team being at a provincial event."

March will be a busy month in Olds for sports. From March 3-5, Olds College hosts the 2016 ACAC Men's Basketball Championship. From March 17-19, Olds High School hosts the ASAA 3A basketball provincials for both senior girls and boys.

"I think what it speaks to, that's a great month for the community of Olds when we're able to bring big events that bring in lots of people from all around Alberta," Taylor said.

"The spinoff for our community with three major events in March should be huge and fantastic. I don't foresee it being an issue. I think we're very mindful of economic pressures that are out there right now so we have a very modest budget in asking for sponsorship Ö these are very manageable amounts that we will be seeking from the community."

Olds currently sits fourth in the Rocky Mountain Female Hockey League's midget tier I division with a 3-1-3 record.
