The Olds Minor Hockey Association is booming, with 21 teams and more than 350 players registered.
If growth is going to continue, the kids are going to need more space to play.
"We need another ice surface in this town just because of usage and volume of children in the program," said association president Rod Bischke.
Olds Minor Hockey doesn't just serve local kids; it attracts players from several other associations.
Eight feed into Olds' competitive AA program: Sundre, Spruce View, Innisfail, Bowden, Didsbury, Carstairs and Kneehill County.
Carstairs, Kneehill, Spruce View and Innisfail send a number of players to Olds for its girls program.
It's a big year for female hockey in town. Olds was named host of this year's Midget A Female Provincial Championships.
"Everything seems to be running really well so it's hard to speak about one thing," said Bischke, who has two daughters enrolled in hockey -- one locally and another in Red Deer.
Bischke said there are several players who've developed through Olds, currently playing at the AAA level -- hockey's elite stream -- in Red Deer: five in midget, three bantam girls and one bantam boy.
The association also has 100 volunteer coaches carded through Hockey Alberta.
"We have a huge volunteer base. Without volunteers, Olds Minor Hockey wouldn't exist. Right from our board members down to our coaches, they're all volunteers."
