OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys host two games at home in the Sportsplex this week before going back on the road Friday.

First up is a matchup Wednesday, Jan. 24 against the Whitecourt Wolverines.

As of Monday, Jan. 22, the Wolverines were in fifth place in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with a record of 25-14-4-1 for 55 points in 44 games. The Grizzlys remained in last place in the league with a record of 10-29-2-3 for 25 points in 44 games.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, the Grizzlys are scheduled to be back on the road to face off against the Thunder in Drayton Valley, a team that, as of Monday, was only five points ahead of the Black and Gold in the standings.

The Grizzlys were scheduled to travel to Blackfalds to take on the Bulldogs this past Saturday.

The AJHL cancelled that game -- and others -- after an announcement Saturday by the British Columbia Hockey League that five AJHL teams — the Bulldogs, Brooks Bandits, Okotoks Oilers, Sherwood Park Crusaders and Spruce Grove Saints — had all agreed to leave the AJHL and join their league for the 2024-25 season.

According to the AJHL website on Monday, the Grizzlys were still scheduled to host the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Friday, Jan. 26.

At press time, there was no announcement that that game had been cancelled, even though the Crusaders are one of the five teams that have pledged to leave the league, along with the Bulldogs.

The Albertan attempted to contact Grizzlys representatives regarding that departure of those teams, but none could be reached for comment by press time.
