OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys junior A hockey team’s development season is underway.

It began Aug. 31 with a 43-man roster: 38 active players, five on injured reserve.

Eventually, head coach-GM Scott Atkinson plans to whittle that down to a 25-man roster.

The team also announced that they’ve traded 2001 forward Zafir Rawji to the Sherwood Park Crusaders for future considerations.

As was reported earlier, this is a weird year for the Grizzlys and the Alberta Junior Hockey League as a whole.

The development season was created as a way to handle COVID-19 protocols.

As of early last week, the Grizzlys were scheduled to open the season Oct. 16 in Camrose against the Kodiaks.

Their first home game is scheduled to take place Oct. 17 when they’re slated to host the Canmore Eagles.
