OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys are hoping to halt a four-game losing streak this Saturday when the team travels to Blackfalds to take on the Bulldogs.

That’ll be a challenge though, because as of Wednesday, the Bulldogs were in fourth place in the 16-team Alberta Junior Hockey league (AJHL) with a 31-13-2-1 record, good for 63 points in 46 games.

The Grizzlys on the other hand, remained in the AJHL basement with a 10-29-2-3 record for 25 points in 44 games, five points behind the Drayton Valley Thunder who were in second-last place.

The Grizzlys’ latest loss was a very close 3-2 decision for the Camrose Kodiaks Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the Sportsplex in Olds.

Neither team was able to score in the first period.

The Kodiaks got the first goal of the game at 14:06 of the second period.

The Grizzlys knotted the score at 1-1 at the 10:13 mark of the third period when Greye Rampton scored his 15th goal of the season on a power play, assisted by Gage Giblin.

The Kodiaks reclaimed the lead with a goal at the 13:30 mark.

However, Michael McIntee tied the game again with his second goal of the season at 14:19, assisted by Nolan Viesner and Cade Moxham.

Unfortunately, Camrose sealed the win at 16:48 of that period.

Aiden Comeau was in net for the Grizzlys. He stopped 32 of 35 shots. The Grizzlys were only able to fire 18 shots at Kodiaks goalie Carson Ironside.

The Grizzlys scored one power play goal in four opportunities; the Kodiaks scored two power play goals in three chances.

Former Grizzlys defenceman Avery Trotter and forward Rhett Miller, who played minor hockey in Olds, were in the lineup for the Kodiaks.

The Grizzlys return home for two games at the Sportsplex Jan. 24 versus the Whitecourt Wolverines and Jan. 26 against the Sherwood Park Crusaders. Game time for both matchups is 7 p.m.
