Olds Broncos lose first volleyball championship match, now play consolation game

OLDS — The Keyano College Huskies took care of business on the road, defeating the host Olds College Broncos in straight sets (26-24, 25-15, 25-21) in an Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's Volleyball Championship quarter-final on Thursday.

ACAC North All-Conference outside and Rookie of the Year Rafael Parada paced the Huskies with an efficient 14-point night, featuring 12 kills on 25 attempts to go with two aces.

ACAC North All-Conference middle Athus Silva was dominant all around as he finished with 11 points (seven kills, three blocks, one ace) to go with three digs.

Nathan Luken (five kills, one ace, one block) and Preston Yole (five kills, two blocks) each added seven points in the victory.

The championship host Broncos were led by a 13-point performance from Reed Grusing (10 kills, three digs) to go with seven digs.

Matheus Franca added nine kills and nine digs, and Aidyn Phillips chipped in with five points (four kills, one block) and 10 digs.

The Huskies will now play the Lakeland College Rustlers at 8 p.m. in the championship semifinal #2 while the Broncos will play the Briercrest Clippers in a consolation bracket game at 3 p.m.
