The Olds High School junior girls volleyball team finished with a 1-3 record at a pre-season home tournament on Sept. 28.

The Spartans opened the tournament with a 11-25, 20-25 loss to the HJ Cody High School Lakers of Sylvan Lake, then were defeated by the Bow Valley High School Bobcats 10-25, 20-25 before rebounding against the Ecole Secondaire Notre Dame High School Cougars of Red Deer 25-22 and 25-16. The Spartans were defeated in the playoff round by the Cochrane High School Cougars 17-25, 25-20, 10-15.

Coach Robin Sears said she saw improvement in the team's passing and serving as the tournament went on. She said she sees good potential in the players as the season gets underway. This was the team's first action of the year.

“They're a blast to work with, a great group of athletes and after the four (matches) they improved every (match). A lot to look forward to. We're hopeful and we're pretty positive about what the girls can do this year,” she said.
