Numbers up for local golf tournament

The third annual Sun Creek Classic golf tournament hosted by Sundre Golf Club and Coyote Creek Golf Club over the weekend had a good turnout, with roughly 130 golfers registered.

The third annual Sun Creek Classic golf tournament hosted by Sundre Golf Club and Coyote Creek Golf Club over the weekend had a good turnout, with roughly 130 golfers registered.

The Coyote Creek golf course re-opened during the last week of July, after being closed for roughly six weeks as a result of the June flood.

“Last year they had about 114, so the numbers are up a little bit this year. Mostly in regards to them not having a golf course the last six weeks, so a lot of them are chomping at the bit to play,” said Colin Snair, head golf professional at Sundre Golf Club.

“A lot of them are coming out and showing their support for this event, as they have finally gotten their golf course fully open,” he said.

The tournament was open to golfers of all abilities.

“It's all based off of your handicap, so it's one of those things where if you do play to your potential or a little better, that anyone has a chance to win,” he explained.

“It is open to other players but primarily it's going to be members from our club and theirs.”

The tournament was held at the Sundre course on Saturday and the Coyote Creek course on Sunday.

“It's competitive golf and it's nice to see two courses come together within the community and promote the event and run it. It's just a great way for both of us to get together and have a fun weekend,” he said.

“The turnout is very positive. I'm looking forward to being around some good people and having fun at the golf course this weekend.”
