Nine Olds Koinonia Christian School athletes have qualified for the cross country running zones, which take place today (Oct. 8) at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School in Okotoks.
They are Ben Werdal who finished first among Grade 12 boys; Naomi Rowe, first among Grade 11 girls; Anna Hoffos, third among Grade 10 girls; Leah Rowe, third among Grade 9 girls; Michael Good, Bailey Spady; Samra Andrews, Amanda Wedal and Elisha Moench.
OKCS athletic director Ken Terpstra says the number of athletes qualifying was kind of expected.
"I wasn't too surprised as I knew we could get nine or 10 runners to zones," he wrote in an email to the Albertan.
Good things were expected from Werdal and Rowe too.
"Both competed in cross country provincials last year so they are both aiming for qualifying for provincials again this year," he wrote.
Over the weekend, the team practised "to keep their cardio and mental game sharp for Tuesday's zones," Terpstra added.
