More than 300 players descend on area for tyke-novice tournament

More than 300 hockey players came out for a mixed tyke-novice tournament hosted by the Olds Minor Hockey Association. The tournament was played at the Olds Sports Complex and in Bowden to accommodate the number of players.

More than 300 hockey players came out for a mixed tyke-novice tournament hosted by the Olds Minor Hockey Association.

The tournament was played at the Olds Sports Complex and in Bowden to accommodate the number of players.

It ran from February 7 to 9 and included nine tyke teams and 12 novice teams.

Visiting teams came from other municipalities including Okotoks, Airdrie, Lacombe, Springbank, Alix, Rimbey and Stoney Plain.

The Olds novice A Grizzlys won a silver medal after losing the final game 6-2 to the Springbank Thrashers.

The Okotoks Novice Green Oilers took the bronze.

In the novice B division, the Airdrie Lightning beat the Stony Plain Predators 7-1 to win the gold.

The Eckville Eagles won the bronze.

The Novice C Rimbey Renegades defeated the Airdrie Stingers 9-4 to win the gold in their division.

The Olds Novice C Grizzlys beat the Alix Avalanche to pick up the bronze.

A food bank drive was also held that raised 340 kilograms for the Mountain View Food Bank, wrote OMHA tyke coordinator Nikki Grover in an email.
