Three Grizzlys will play for Team West at the CJHL Prospects Game on Jan. 26 in Surrey, B.C.

Goaltender Kurtis Chapman, forward Riley Smith and defenceman James Miller were named to the roster earlier this month.

The game is played between players from the CJHL's western leagues (BCHL, AJHL, SJHL, MJHL and SIJHL) and eastern leagues ((NOJHL, OJHL, CCHL, QJHL, MHL). They've all been jointly chosen by the CJHL and NHL Central Scouting.

"It's really exciting. I honestly couldn't have done it without the team. They make me look good. We're a tight knit-team. It's a good thing, but I have to give thanks to my team," Miller said.

In 34 games this season, Miller has scored three goals and recorded 13 assists.

"He sees the ice really well. Very agile, smart with the puck," said Grizzlys assistant coach Dustin Borbandy. "He's very mobile and jumps into the rush. He's got a great, great shot and he's a huge asset when he uses those."

The prospects game was created to showcase junior A talent for scouts. Miller, who hopes to play college hockey, is looking forward to being on that stage and sharing the ice with some of the best in the country.

"It's all of that. Of course the exposure. It'd be really nice to get drafted but it's also playing with the best players right now. It's going to be a good game."

Miller, from Spruce Grove, has yet to reach his 18th birthday but still played regular minutes last season as a rookie. This year, he's at the top of the depth chart.

"When you're suddenly put into a spot where you're relied upon a lot, it's a tough role. But he's doing very well at it," Borbandy said.
