Innisfail youth nearly wins bantam section of junior golf tournament

OLDS — An Innisfail golfer came within a whisker of winning the bantam boys division of the Maple Leaf Junior Golf tournament at the Olds Golf Club. 

The tournament, sponsored by Cam Clark Ford, was held in the community June 27 and 28, attracting 108 golfers from across the province. 

Brae Rogalczyk, 14, of Innisfail carded a 71 and 81 for a total of 152, just one stroke back of Brady Durkin of Sylvan Lake, also 14, who posted scores of 72 and 79 for a total of 151. 

Two other local youths competed in the tournament 

In the juvenile boys section, Ryder Riedel of Didsbury, 15, shot 83 and 85 for a total of 168, good for 22nd place in that division. 

Reid Williamson, 17, of Olds finished in 25th place in the junior boys section, having shot 92 and 88 for a total of 180. 

Just before the tournament, on Sunday, June 26, a mini tour for 12U players was held, along with a free junior golf clinic for kids in the community, taught by PGA of Canada pros.
