The Olds Koinonia Christian School junior A girls basketball team was able to celebrate winning the South Central 1J zone championship on their home court on the weekend of March 7 and 8.

The squad began its undefeated run in the tournament with a 41-17 win over the Trochu Valley School and a 53-6 win over the Beiseker Community School on March 7, along with a 38-14 win over Linden's Dr. Elliott Community School on March 8.

In the gold medal game, OKCS beat Rosemary Academic School out of Duchess 28-17.

The girls team won the 1J zone championship last year as well and this is the first time in OKCS's 31-year history that the team has had back-to-back wins in the zone championship.

Prior to the tournament, the girls team, who went undefeated in the Chinook's Edge South Athletic Association (CESAA) this season, won the league finals with a 44-34 win over Carstairs' Hugh Sutherland School on Feb. 27 in Crossfield.

The school's junior A boys team also won the CESAA league championship after defeating Crossfield's W.G. Murdoch School in overtime by a score of 53-48 on Feb. 27.

This is the first time in the school's history the boys and girls junior A teams were league champions in the same season.
