Olds High School will be sending five of 10 cross-country running team members to the provincial championships in Medicine Hat on Oct. 15.

Mitch Ormann, Carson Jorgensen, Daniela Aguilar, Sam Prevost and Luiz Zumpano will all be heading off to the provincial meet after placing in the top 18 at the zone championships Oct. 5 in Canmore.

Coach Sherry Leppa said achieving a provincial spot was especially meaningful for Aguilar and Zumpano, both exchange students from Mexico and Brazil respectively, as the temperature during the zones hovered between one degree and 11 Celsius.

All 10 members of the team achieved personal best times. Anushree Patel shaved two minutes and 30 seconds off her time while Ben Goodwin, a Grade 9 runner, took five minutes off his time. Brock Beal, a Grade 11 student, improved his time by six minutes, while Courtenay Schafer achieved her personal best by one minute.

Results for Olds Koinonia Christian School, which is also sending students to the provincial meet, were not available at press time last week.
