A new player has joined the Olds Grizzlys.

The team has signed 18-year-old defenceman Jordan Steenbergen.

Steenbergen, originally from Sylvan Lake, played 62 games over three seasons with the Kootenay Ice in the WHL and recorded three assists.

He also played midget AAA with Red Deer Minor Hockey.

"Jordan has experience and has the added benefit of being familiar with a lot of the players on our roster. We expect him to come in and be an impact player for us defensively," said Grizzlys head coach Brett Hopfe in a statement from the team.

"He is a great skater and works extremely hard when he steps on the ice and that is something that we always welcome to our organization."

The team also announced it had reassigned forward Josh Murphy to the North Vancouver Wolf Pack, a junior B team in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League.

In a statement, Hopfe said the move was to allow Murphy to develop as a player rather than sit in the stands.

"Josh is a tremendous kid that we see a lot of upside in. It was as simple as us not being able to get him in as many games as we would have liked to."
