The governing body of the Olds Grizzlys has announced its approval of a potential business plan for the team that it claims will keep the club on the ice.
The team also announced it has a new president.
In a media release issued on April 17, the team stated the Olds Sportsmans Recreational Association’s board of directors approved "the development of a business plan that will allow the Association to continue operations in Olds, Alberta, for the upcoming AJHL season and for many years to come."
The public is invited to attend a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. on April 29 at the Olds Royal Canadian Legion where details of the plan will be made available.
Association members and other "interested parties" are asked to attend the meeting to "provide input and guidance on specific ways to insure the Club’s future."
Earlier this year, the association launched a season tickets sales campaign to help bring down the team’s debt of more than $100,000, but the campaign was not successful.
A fundraising alumni hockey game and dinner on April 5 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Grizzlys winning the Centennial Cup, however, reportedly brought in more than $25,000 for the club.
In the same media release, the association announced that Russell Jemieff has stepped down as its president.
Jim Ross, who has served as the association’s president in the past for five years, will fill that position until the club’s annual general meeting that is tentatively scheduled for June 11.
He first joined the Grizzlys organization in 1996 and has served as a director for 12 years.
Ross is the research manager for Olds College’s Prairie Turfgrass Research Centre.
