OLDS — Olds Grizzlys defenceman Joshua Zinger was named the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week for the Sept. 27-Oct. 3 period.

“With four points in two games at the AJHL Showcase, Zinger is now third among all AJHL defencemen in scoring with eight points (three goals, five assists),” an AJHL news release says.

The 20-year-old from Red Deer is in his second season with the Grizzlys and stood second in team scoring as of last week.

The Grizzlys did pretty well during the annual AJHL Showcase tournament, held Sept. 30-Oct. 3.

They lost their opening game a 6-5 in overtime to the Lloydminster Bobcats.

Zinger recorded a goal and an assist in that matchup.

However, they evened their record to .500 in the second game with a 4-3 overtime win over the Bonnyville Pontiacs, earning their first win of the season.

Forward Noah Hackett scored the overtime winner after the Grizzlys blew a 3-1 lead.

Zinger got a goal and an assist in that game as well.

Forward Tyler Green was named player of the game for the Grizzlys.
