Farmers and Farmerettes Bonspiel deemed a success

A total of 56 rinks took part in this year's edition of the Olds Farmers and Farmerettes Bonspiel held at the Olds Curling Club from Feb. 14 to 18.

A total of 56 rinks took part in this year's edition of the Olds Farmers and Farmerettes Bonspiel held at the Olds Curling Club from Feb. 14 to 18.

The team of Travis Phillips, Dale Phillips, Svend Neilsen and Cam Fazakas took first place in the A event while the foursome of Ray Pahal, Ken Taylor, Doug Manning and Dean Bracken took top honours in the B event. The rink of Larry Flessatti, Gary Richards, Al Kemmere and Jim Dunlop took first in the C event and Daryl Bauer, Jeff Bauer, Ernie Gelinas and Steve Winter took top spot in the D event.

On the farmerettes side, Patti Gardner, Shaina Schneider, Dawnica Martin and Bev Craig took first in the A event while Gerry Laviolette, Donna Smethurst, Elaine Graham and Jackie Daley took first in the B event. Darlene Bauer, Louise Dyjur, Tammy Jones and Lois Thorburn took first in the C event.

"I think it was a great success,î said Gene Leonard, one of the members of the organizing committee.

There were about 12 to 15 teams from out of town, including from Innisfail, Didsbury, Elnora and elsewhere.
