The Dolphin Swim Club attended its second meet of the season on June 15 and 16 in Lacombe. Thirty-four swimmers were at the meet and swam an amazing 14,775 metres. Once again, the team had some fantastic finishes.

Personal best times were achieved by Katy Balog, Kaitlyn Bowe, Devin Chambers, Reilly Dixon, Kelly Eggink, Mika Eggink, Faith Gette, Josh Gette, Sarah Gette, Jesse Hall, Kira Kinder, Kristine Kinder, Ardelle Layden, Elliot Layden, Quinn Layden, Donovan Pineau, Mackenzie Reeves, Myah Roberts, Alli Russell, Anna Russell, Emma Shokeir, John Shokier, Julia Shokier, Philip Shokier, Sydney Thompson, Amy Valentine, Justin Valentine and Sara Valentine.

It's still early in the swim season and already there are some new club records:

Sydney Thompson for girls 13 to 14 50m back in 35.25 seconds

Ardelle Layden for girls 18 and over 50m back in 34.63 seconds. She also broke a club record for the girls 18 and over 50m breast in 39.74 seconds

Faith Gette for girls 13 to 14 50m breast in 42.75 seconds

Quinn Layden for boys 17 to 18 400m free in 5:04.62 minutes

Quinn Layden, Donovan Pineau, Devin Chambers and Josh Gett competed in the relay team for boys 17 and under for both 200m free, coming in at 1:59.52 minutes, and the 200m medley relay at 2:19.02 minutes.

These swimmers may make it look easy to break club records but in fact it's just the opposite. The Dolophin Swim Club still has some records that are standing since as early as 1983.

Aggregate winners at the Lacombe Swim Meet were:

Justin Valentine, gold; Mika Eggink, silver; Kira Kinder, bronze; Sydney Thompson, gold; Josh Gette, silver; Quinn Layden, gold; Elliot Layden, silver; Devin Chambers, silver; Donovan Pineau, bronze; Ardelle Layden, gold.

The Dolphins' next swim meet will be June 23 in Forestburg. This is an outdoor meet and many of our swimmers have never competed in an outdoor pool. Let's hope for sunny weather.
