It was another weekend of losses for Olds College Broncos sports teams as the women's and men's squads in basketball and volleyball were defeated at home on January 10 and 11.

Taking to the court for the first time since the Ralph Klein Centre floor was replaced, the women's volleyball team fell to the King's University College Eagles three sets to two on Jan. 10.

The men's game followed with the Eagles blanking the Broncos in three straight sets.

The Eagles also beat the Broncos volleyball teams by the same scores the following night at King's University College.

The women are currently in fifth place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and the men are in last place.

The Broncos women's basketball team lost its first game of 2014 80-52 to the first-place Grant MacEwan Griffins on Jan. 11 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

Carmen Deal, a forward from Las Vegas who played her first game with the Broncos on Jan. 11 and scored 16 points, said hopefully the defeat will help the team focus on improving several aspects of its game.

ìI think this was a good loss for us because it shows what we have to work on,î she said, adding the team needs to ìget in better shapeî and play better defence.

Deal is one of several new faces on the team from the U.S. as the Broncos came out of the holiday break, along with April Freeney of Los Angeles.

The women's team is now tied for eighth place in its division.

The men's basketball team kept its game with the Griffins close until the fourth quarter the same night but ultimately fell 85-71.

Broncos guard Justin King scored 26 points during the game.

The men's squad has yet to win a game this season and is currently in last place in its division with 11 losses.
