The Bowden Blades novice hockey team received $250 from Bowden town council to help cover costs for its annual tournament, held this past weekend (Jan. 23-24).

In a letter provided to council, the team's manager and tournament coordinator Kim Urichuk said the tournament is a key factor in the team's fundraising efforts.

“One of the main goals of our association is to keep the cost of participation affordable so that as many children are able to be involved as possible,” Urichuk wrote. “The main fundraiser for each team is their annual tournament.”

“The kids love this event and it is a great advertising opportunity for the donor.”

Urichuk noted during the tournament, each participant receives a trophy or medal. Also heart and hustle awards are presented for outstanding effort. A most sportsmanlike award is given out as well.
