College students ride hard at rodeo finals

Olds College student Tyler Kampjes won the saddle bronc competition at the Canadian College Finals Rodeo in Edmonton last month.

Olds College student Tyler Kampjes won the saddle bronc competition at the Canadian College Finals Rodeo in Edmonton last month.The 21-year-old first-year agricultural management student from Bon Accord was one of 12 college students who competed at the event.This is the second year Kampjes has won the saddle bronc event and he was the season leader heading into this year's finals.He also placed third in the steer-wrestling event and competed in the team-roping event.The other college competitors were Dace Chison, Allen Fletcher, Lance Issak, Desirae Jackson, Leonard Johnson, Ryan McGonigal, Kelli McLeod, Aaron Miller, Sampson Moss, Sasha Noval and Cayley Williamson and they took part in nine of 10 events at the competition.The finals were held at the Edmonton EXPO Centre from March 27 to 29.Information on how the other competitors made out was not available before press time.
