Charity rodeo at Daines Ranch August 24

The Daines Rodeo Ranch will be playing host to a charity rodeo event spearheaded by a Calgary Flames player this August.

The Daines Rodeo Ranch will be playing host to a charity rodeo event spearheaded by a Calgary Flames player this August.

Curtis Glencross, a left-winger who was born in Saskatchewan but spent most of his early years in Alberta, including living in Red Deer, is helping organize the Glencross Invitational Charity Roughstock Event.

The roughstock event will benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer and minor hockey in Alberta. The Ronald McDonald House helps support sick children and their families from out of town that have to stay in Red Deer during treatment.

“It is really important to me and my family to make sure we are not only giving back to this area but also be involved in a lot of different activities here,” said Glencross in a press release.

The charity roughstock event will feature bull riding, saddlebronc and bareback riding with participants from all over North America.

The gate opens at 5 p.m. on Aug. 25, with the rodeo starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster.

There will be entertainment provided for after the rodeo.

The day before the rodeo there will be a poker tournament in Red Deer for event sponsors.

“My family and I, along with our event committee, are really excited about the two days – it is going to bring together everything that we love about Alberta for an amazing cause that really touches our hearts,” said Glencross in a press release.

The Glencross Invitational Charity Roughstock Event is being presented by the Calgary Flames and PennWest Exploration.
