Centennial Cup-winning Grizzlys bound for Hockey Hall of Fame

The 1994 Olds Grizzlys have been named as 2014 inductees for the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame.Hockey Alberta and the Hockey Alberta Foundation announced the winners on Feb. 20.

The 1994 Olds Grizzlys have been named as 2014 inductees for the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame.Hockey Alberta and the Hockey Alberta Foundation announced the winners on Feb. 20.The team will be inducted to the Achievement Category, after winning the Centennial Cup during the 1993-94 season.Olds was given a berth in the Cup as the host but the team still finished first with a 50-4-2 regular season record.It was the third straight AJHL title for the team.The Grizzlys will be formally inducted at the Hockey Alberta Awards Gala on June 7.The ceremony will take place at the Westin Hotel in Edmonton.Team president Russell Jemieff said this is the first Alberta Hockey League team to be inducted in the hall of fame and the honour makes plans to commemorate the occasion on April 4 and 5 that much sweeter.“It's just more icing on the cake for that weekend,” he said.On those dates, members of the Grizzlys' 1994 Centennial Cup championship team will be playing a group of other former Grizzlys alumni to celebrate 20 years since the team won Canada's biggest Junior A hockey prize.
