CARSTAIRS - A Red Deer Rebels netminder from Carstairs was named the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) top goaltender for the week ending Nov.19.

The major junior hockey league announced it’s weekly top picks Monday.

Rhett Stoesser was named WHL Goaltender of the Week after his performance in back-to-back games against the Calgary Hitmen Friday and Saturday.

The 18 year old stopped all 40 shots he faced in a 3-0 win for the Rebels against the Hitmen at the Scotiabank Saddledome Nov. 17.

Officials note it marked his second shutout this season and fourth since playing in the WHL.

He stopped 26 shots on goal during the Rebels’ 3-2 win over the Hitmen on Nov. 18.

The six-foot-1.5-inch, 183-pound netminder sits fifth in the WHL with a .912 save percentage and sixth with a 2.37 goals-against average.

According to the Rebels, Stoesser was listed by the Rebels after going undrafted and is 23-10-0-1 in 36 career starts for the team, posting a 2.36 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.
