Best of the best Olds College athletes awarded

The Olds College athletic department handed out year-end awards last week for all of its sports teams. Lorelee Grattidge of the women's futsal team was named the female athlete of the year at the college with the top overall grade point average.

The Olds College athletic department handed out year-end awards last week for all of its sports teams.

Lorelee Grattidge of the women's futsal team was named the female athlete of the year at the college with the top overall grade point average. Travis Paulgaard of the men's curling team was the male athlete of the year with the top grade point average.

Kathryn Couperous of the women's varsity basketball team was named the Alberta Colleges Athletic League female athlete of the year while Colton Short received the male athlete honours for his efforts in both volleyball and basketball.

Alanna Jonson of the women's futsal team was named the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference female athlete of the year while Justin Schmidt of the men's futsal squad was given the male ACAC athlete of the year honour.

The most dedicated athlete in women's cross-country was Hannah Roberts; for the men, it was Lance Wakefield. In men's curling, a lifetime honourary member was granted to Jay Rimke.

The most improved player in women's futsal was Grattidge while the love award, embodying team spirit, was given to Cynthia Bramham. On the men's side, the most improved award was given to Richard Aisman while the “good feelin' ” award was given to Franz Unterberger.

In women's volleyball, Dakota Wilson was given the nod for rookie of the year, while Emma Tividar and Tristin Hogarth shared the heart and hustle award. Alexis West took the most valuable player award.

In JV men's volleyball, Brett Steadman took the leadership award while Tyler Comeau took the most dedicated award. Tim MacDonald took most valuable player honours. In varsity volleyball, Lance Davison took the leadership award, while Eric Wickert was deemed the most dedicated player. Steven Greilach was given most valuable player honours.

Stacey Bohnet took the leadership award on the JV women's basketball team while Leann Miller was selected as the most dedicated. Layce Donaldson was given the nod as the most valuable player. Laura Belisle was given the leadership award for the varsity women's basketball team while Mackenzie Judd was deemed most dedicated.

Mitch Smith was given the rookie of the year award for men's basketball. Jason Nysten was given the leadership award for the basketball squads while Sam Kirkness was named most valuable player.
