Bert Church, Cochrane win basketball tournament

The Olds High School junior basketball teams were only able to muster one win between them against some tough competition at the school's annual junior varsity tournament on December 6 and 7.

The Olds High School junior basketball teams were only able to muster one win between them against some tough competition at the school's annual junior varsity tournament on December 6 and 7.

The girls team put up the only W for Olds with a 44-38 win over Sylvan Lake's HJ Cody School on Dec. 6.

Chestermere High School then defeated Olds 44-38 and the Spartans lost to Airdrie's George McDougall High School 44-35.

Airdrie's Bert Church High School girls beat Chestermere 54-31 to take home first-place honours in the tournament.

And Acme School beat Canmore Collegiate 49-30 to come in third place.

The boys team went 0-3 during the tournament, losing 33-54 to HJ Cody School, 22-94 to the Cochrane High School Cobras and 31-57 to Okotoks' Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School.

The Cochrane boys team won the tournament by defeating Bert Church High School 64-55 on Dec. 7, with George McDougall High School taking third-place honours with a 48-43 win over HJ Cody School.
