The Penhold Amazons are out of playoff competition after a hard-fought weekend against the Lethbridge Jr. Eagles.

"They were very close games," said co-coach Annette Jensen. The Amazons lost 2-1 in both games they played this weekend, knocking them out of a best of three round.

The March 10 game at the Penhold Regional Multiplex went through double overtime and a shootout before the Eagles won. The overtime periods featured a 10-minute session of four on four and a 20-minute session of five on five. The game finished up around 8 p.m., Jensen said.

Then both teams had to be at Adams Ice Centre for 3 p.m. on Sunday.

"The travel was rough," Jensen said, noting the late game also impacted both teams.

Jensen said the Lethbridge goalie was one of the deciding factors, as the ladies "couldn't seem to get it past her."

"Both goalies played amazing, ours and theirs," Jensen said.

The ladies of the Amazons played well, Jensen said.

"They played really hard," Jensen said. This was the second round of league playoffs, with the next step being the championship round.

The Amazons won the playoffs last year and many of the players will likely back to take another shot at the title next year, Jensen said.

Trials for the team start in September and the season will get started in October.
