Innisfail hosted tryouts for players hoping to make this year's Zone 4 lacrosse team for the Alberta Summer Games.

About 30 runners and 4 goalies were trying out during the evaluations that were held for several evenings last week.

“It's like a mini-Olympics,” said Mandy Mitchell-Himer, co-ordinator for the zone. Mitchell-Himer said the players trying out were at the Bantam level. She said the team selected would be 16 runners and two goalies.

“It's a good experience. Kids from all leagues are usually against each other. The focus here is on teamwork, participation, focus and inclusion which are the fundamentals of Alberta Lacrosse Association,” she said.

Zone 4 includes much of central Alberta, running south of Red Deer but north of Olds. The north border is between Leduc and Wetaskiwin. The east limit is the Saskatchewan border and the west goes out past Rocky Mountain House.

The Zone 4 team will go down to Lethbridge July 26-29 to participate in the summer games.
