The Town of Didsbury has officially recognized resident Wesley Wilks, who won six gold medals at the 2019 Canada Summer Games.

Mayor Rhonda Hunter presented Wilks, a competitive swimmer, with a certificate of recognition during the Sept. 10 council meeting.

It reads: “In recognition of your six gold medals at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games. Town of Didsbury Mayor and Council extends our best wishes to you on this milestone.”

“Thank you for honouring us with your presence today,” said Hunter. “What an amazing accomplishment. I would say it’s a rare situation where one individual achieves such an impressive accomplishment.”

He won golds in 50 and 100 metre backstroke, 50 metre butterfly, 50 metre breaststroke, and the 50 and 100 freestyle.

A 2019 graduate of Didsbury High School who started swimming when he was 10 years old, Wilks thanked the town for the recognition of his efforts.
