The province has identified 70 new cases of people contracting COVID-19 since yesterday. This brings the total number of people infected to 5,963.

Six more people have died. In total, 112 people have died in the province from the virus.

Currently, 82 people are in hospital and 18 of them are in intensive care.

Numbers from the province show 3,552 people have now recovered from COVID-19 – 333 people higher than yesterday.

Alberta chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says despite a steep increase in cases in the Calgary zone and the South zone – due to the outbreaks in meat packing facilities – the curve has flattened, in general.

The Cargill meat packing plant near High River has had 946 cases, the JBS meat plant in Brooks has had 566, and Harmony Beef in Balzac has had 38 cases of COVID-19.
