Ten train cars derailed about five kilometers south of Innisfail at 1:27 a.m. April 21 confirmed Kevin Hrysak, media spokesman for Canadian Pacific (CP).

He said a train was heading north when the accident occurred causing ten empty cars to go off the track.

There were no injuries to the crew, no environmental concerns or risks to the area, he added.

He couldn't comment on what happened or what lead to the derailment saying an investigation is ongoing and could take anywhere from one month to one year to determine.

CP and emergency crews responded immediately to the area. Traffic along the QEII highway slowed Saturday morning as crews worked on cleaning up the area. Hrysak expects traffic will be restored around 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
