The Lego Movie has come to Innisfail and hit the ground running.

Parents and grandparents led by anxious children of all ages have packed the Century Theatre to watch the world of Lego come to digital life.

The movie is an amazingly creative work that succeeds at many levels. For young children, the Lego toys they have played with are on the big screen. For tweens and teens, Star Wars, Batman, Western Town, Wonder Woman, and the Lord of the Rings sets interact in the same toy universe. Older viewers will enjoy the not-so-subtle cultural references and laugh right alongside the rest of the audience.

The Lego Movie follows Emmet, a construction worker who happens upon Wildstyle, a ninja, searching for a lost artifact. Following her, Emmet is transported into a world where an apocalyptic battle between order and imagination rages. Joining forces with Batman, Gandalf, Unikitty, Green Lantern, and a legion of Master builders, he becomes something he could never imagine.

Immaculately animated, cleverly written, superbly cast, extremely enjoyable, and thematically powerful, the Lego Movie is sure to be one that families will enjoy no matter how often they watch it.

One of the most surprising aspects of this film is the catchy theme song, Everything is Awesome. At one point, Emmet exclaims, ìI love this song, I could listen to it all day!î Turns out, he does. So does everyone else too. It was obvious that the children in the audience loved it as well as they danced in the aisles.

Praise for the film flowed over as parents and children chatted noisily in the lobby.

ìI liked Unikitty best.î

ìBatman was funny.î

ìDid Emmet kiss Lucy?î

The Lego Movie is sure to be a hit.

It runs nightly at 7 p.m. from Feb. 7 to Feb. 20 at the Innisfail Century Theatre.
