Local seniors looking for help in their homes now have one more option with the opening of Innisfail Helping Hands this month.

Jacquie Major, owner/operator of the new company, is busy readying her locally owned business for a grand opening on May 2. She is printing business cards and preparing flyers for potential clients.

“I've been unofficially working with clients for around six weeks in their own homes now, ” said Major. “But my official date to open up was May 2, and I will be busy.”

The Innisfailian first saw the need for the service when she was part of a dementia-Alzheimer's website and a company was advertising its services to those caregiving or being cared for. She took inspiration from the potential and looked around to see how she could help those aging adults in Innisfail who want to stay in their own homes as long as possible.

“I took a government course on starting your own business and with the inspiration I got from the dementia group, Innisfail Helping Hands was born,” added Major. “Presently, before opening, I have around seven clients but do have room for more.”

Major noted she plans on being available for any kind of work from light to heavy jobs.

“I'm not afraid of hard work,” she said. “If someone needs their walls washed for a move out, I'll do that. I am willing to do whatever is required of me by my clients.”

In preparation for a high demand, Major has already lined up several ladies prepared to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand. She also has teenagers willing to help with lawn mowing, shovelling, and garden tasks.

“I am a local business, and want to keep my employees local,” said Major. “With the amount of interest expressed already without a web page and only a Facebook page, I will have to expand my workforce and I am ready for that when that time comes.”

While her company is called Innisfail Helping Hands, she wants to be much more.

“I enjoy spending time with my seniors,” added Major, “and want to be seen as having a caring heart as well. Having worked at Sunset Manor before, I understand how much seniors value companionship.”

Innisfail Helping Hands can be contacted on Facebook or at 403-350-9175.
