Innisfail RCMP nab two ATV theft suspects

INNISFAIL – Two fleeing men on a stolen ATV are facing serious Criminal Code charges after being caught allegedly trying to steal fuel.

RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said in a news release that on March 4 Innisfail RCMP were called to a Red Deer County address where two suspects had stolen an ATV and were attempting to steal fuel.

Savinkoff said the suspects were confronted by local property owners. He added the suspects then fled on the ATV.

RCMP members contained the area and requested assistance from the RCMP Police Dog Service, said Savinkoff.

He said both suspects were located by police and arrested without incident.

Kenneth Fawcett, 40, of Red Deer, has been charged with the following offences:
 
• theft of a motor vehicle;

• break and enter with intent;

• mischief over $5,000 (damage to property); and

• three provincial driving infractions under the Traffic Safety Act.

Fawcett has been held in custody pending a judicial interim release hearing on March 11.
 
Mac Smith, 39, of Clearwater County, has been charged with the following offences:
 
• theft of a motor vehicle;

• break and enter with intent;

• mischief over $5,000 (damage to property); and

• one provincial driving infraction under the Traffic Safety Act.

Smith was released from custody on $300 cash bail with conditions. His next court appearance is set for March 28.
