There will be user rate increases this year at the Anthony Henday Campground.

On Jan. 27, town council approved requests from the Innisfail Lions Club, which is in the second year of a lease arrangement with the town to operate the campground, to increase site user rates and to make infrastructure improvements.

Council was told the club wanted to increase the rate for tent sites to $15 from $12, and regular power sites to $25 from $22. As well, council agreed with the club's request to have a $30 fee for the five sites with 30-amp power.

Administration, which supported the requests, also stated the club wanted to install a low illuminated streetlight at the northwest end of the top loop of the campground, an area that is dark, especially later in the season.

The Lions campground committee also said it was necessary to winterize the shower/washroom building to enable staff to drain waterlines to reduce the risk of pipe bursts, as well as expensive repair in times of power outages.

Council was told the Lions Club is taking full responsibility for all improvement work costs.

Heather Whymark, director of corporate services, said with council's approval the Lions Club would be able to make the necessary campground improvements this spring.
