Plea delayed in forcible confinement case

An Innisfail man facing charges of break and enter with intent, forcible confinement, choking to overcome resistance, assault, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and other offences put over his election and plea when he appeared in court in Airdrie on Nov. 29.

The man, who isn't being named to due to a publication ban protecting the identity of the victim, was charged after his alleged victim passed a note to a Good Samaritan at CrossIron Mills on March 28. Mall security was contacted. The security guard called the police and located the victim and suspect, taking them to the security office.

An RCMP press release said the accused allegedly assaulted the woman in front of the police and fought the officers during arrest.

The man is due back in court on Dec. 13 for election and plea. Election is when an accused individual chooses whether he wants to be tried in provincial court by a judge, or in the Court of Queen's Bench with a judge and jury or with a judge alone.

Election reserved for fraud charges

Election and plea was reserved for an Innisfail man facing four charges of fraud over $5,000 when he appeared at the case management office of Red Deer provincial court on Nov. 30.

Alister Loughlin has been charged with fraud over allegations about an investment scheme at Innisfail Park and Sell before it closed down operations in June 2011.

Loughlin is due back in court Dec. 18.
