Innisfail Christmas Bureau gets started

The Innisfail Christmas Bureau was scheduled to hold its annual general meeting and unpacking night on Nov. 27.

Pat Bidart, chair of the bureau, said citizens, businesses, service clubs and more came together to help provide Christmas for about 355 people in Innisfail and the surrounding area last year.

“The support of the community is amazing and we are fortunate to be in such a caring and giving community,” Bidart said in an email.

Donations can be dropped off Tuesday and Thursday nights starting Dec.4 at the bureau, which is occupying the former dollar store space at the Co-op mall. Donations can be dropped off at the town office or Dairy Queen during the day now.

Donations of money are accepted year round while gift donations are accepted until Dec. 20.

Applications to access the bureau's services are in person at the space in the Co-op mall on Monday and Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Penhold accepts toys for fines

Donating a new toy is an acceptable way to pay municipal fines during Penhold's Toys for Your Tickets campaign running until Dec. 14.

Those who receive a ticket for violating a municipal bylaw like a parking ticket between Nov. 5 and Dec. 14 can choose to donate a new and unwrapped toy at the town office. Provincial tickets, like speeding, are not eligible.

“It's a partnership between Penhold peace officers, FCSS and Red Deer Christmas Bureau,” said Dana Jones, community peace officer for Penhold.

The Red Deer Christmas Bureau is serving residents of Penhold this year and residents who'd like to apply must do so in Red Deer.

The toy must be worth a minimum of 75 per cent of the value of the fine, be aimed at ages one to 13 and come with the original receipt.

There are to be no war toys but gift cards are accepted, Jones said.
