Cigarette suspected in fatal Bowden fire

Careless smoking is believed to have caused the fire that killed two people in the early hours of Mother's Day at the Bowden Estates Trailer Park. Olds RCMP released the names of the victims.

Careless smoking is believed to have caused the fire that killed two people in the early hours of Mother's Day at the Bowden Estates Trailer Park.

Olds RCMP released the names of the victims. They are Kelly Yelenik, a 49-year-old male, and Sheryl Eldridge, a 42-year-old female.

Although the fire is still under investigation, it has been deemed accidental in nature.

Olds RCMP and the Bowden fire department responded to the Bowden mobile home fire at approximately 1:24 a.m. on May 13.

Once the fire was extinguished, the bodies of the home's two residents were found inside.

Olds RCMP remind homeowners to periodically check their smoke alarms to ensure they are in working order and functioning properly.
