Bull auctioned off in memory of Parsonage

Over $18,000 has been raised for the Red Deer Hospice and the Innisfail Professional Rodeo, partially from the sale of a donated bull.

Duane Parsonage from P&H Ranching donated one of his two-year-old Charolais Bulls for auction to raise money in memory of his father, Gordon, who spent some time in the Red Deer Hospice before his death five years ago.

"They took such good care of him when he was at the hospice that I wanted to do something to give back," said Parsonage, who is donating half of the money raised to the hospice.

Parsonage's father was also a huge fan of rodeo and his favourite event was the bronc riding, so he is donating the other half of the funds to the bronc riding event at the Innisfail Pro Rodeo.

The bull was auctioned off at the Innisfail Auction Mart on Saturday, Feb. 12 and was bought for $5,500 by Gord Garthwaite and Dennis Garthwaite of Rey Creek Ranch in Logan Lake, B.C.

The other $15,500 was raised through individual donations to the cause.

The sale was a lot of fun and a lot of the people buying bulls that day threw in money for the donation, said Parsonage.
