Innisfail town council heard loud and clear from Westwood trailer park residents they do not want anything to do with a dump beside their homes.

On July 14, an overflowing crowed of more than 40 Westwood residents packed into town hall to tell town council that its decision last spring to relocate the waste transfer site beside their community of 230 citizens was unacceptable.

Westwood residents Don Corcoran and Dan Giesbrecht both made presentations to council, arguing the move would reduce property values and lead to increased noise, as well as create potential health issues for residents. They also told council members there was anger in both the trailer park and the community at large for the town's lack of consultation with park residents before council approved the move on April 28.

When both presentations were completed, members of council had no questions or comments for the points made by either Corcoran or Giesbrecht.

However, Mayor Brian Spiller said all issues with the town's site selection for the relocated waste transfer site will be addressed at an open house in September. The date has not yet been set.
