"He did really well," his mom Maggie says.

LaGrange has been involved in music and musical theatre for about five years.

"When he was eight, he and his brother Lucas -- I encouraged them to audition for a musical theatre group. They didn't really want to; they were really shy and all that. I said, 'I know it'll be fun; give it a shot.' They did it, and they loved it," Maggie says.

Evan says he enjoys it so much he can see himself taking musical theatre in high school and possibly in college.

"It's just kind of fun," he says, adding acting is his favourite part of musical theatre "because you can be whatever character you want to be."
