It was during a performance of A Christmas Carol at Theatre Calgary last year that Cali Beazley realized she needed to stage the much-loved tale on a local stage.

“As I was sitting watching it—I've done this show before—I was saying to myself, I need to do this show again,” she said. “It's such a good story. It has such a good ending and I think it's something that we all need to remember. You always have a chance to do better in life and at this time of year, that message is super important.”

Beazley's Didsbury-based Creatively Cali Art and Performance Studio will present A Christmas Carol at Olds' TransCanada Theatre on December 12 and 13 with 30 local students, including students from Olds Koinonia Christian School and Didsbury High School, serving as cast and crew for the production.

Students have been preparing since September for the production, said Beazley, who also teaches drama at Didsbury High School, adding this will be a “traditional” telling of the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge.

For those humbugs who somehow don't know the story, A Christmas Carol follows the heartless Scrooge as he learns, thanks to the help of three ghosts that visit him on Christmas Eve, that compassion and generosity are the true meanings of Christmas and humanity.

The performances begin at 7 p.m. with Monika with a K Musik performing Christmas music as a warm-up to the show.

Beazley said the show has been condensed to run about 50 minutes.

Tickets are $15 and admission for children under five years old is free.

Tickets are available at Didsbury High School or by contacting the studio at [email protected] or 403-507-5414.
