DIDSBURY - Town council has approved the presentation of a community recognition award to longtime community volunteer Joyce McCoy.

The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

McCoy was nominated for the award by fellow resident Brent Murray Swain. In a letter accompanying the nomination form, Swain said McCoy’s volunteer efforts have benefited the entire community, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Joyce has made significant contributions through numerous volunteer activities from participating and supporting fundraising campaigns, senior and youth programs as well as supporting local business to name a few,” said Swain.

McCoy has started two social media sites – Shop Local Didsbury and Caremongering-Didsbury Community – in response to COVID-19 – to promote the business community and provide health information, he noted.

“I am sure most Didsburians will agree that Joyce has been a shining light and a tremendous asset through tough times that many have endured during 2020,” he said.

As part of the award, McCoy qualifies to receive a letter of recognition from the mayor on behalf of council.

McCoy was one of nine recent recipients of the provincial Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award for her community contributions.
